Join exhibiting artist, Sam Zimmerman, for a reading of “How the Birds Got Their Songs” at The Crossing Arts Alliance!
When the Great Spirit presents a challenge to the birds, one of the birds tricks the others and earns the prettiest song. Find out which bird—and where you can hear it today! This story was passed down through the Zimmerman family and features traditional knowledge from the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. “How the Birds Got Their Songs” was written by Travis Zimmerman, illustrated by Sam Zimmerman, and retold in Ojibwemowin by Marcus Ammesmaki.
Let’s gather for a very special read-along with the illustrator of this book on Friday, May 16th from 3:30-4:30PM! Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Prior registration is required so we know how many little bookworms to expect.
Sliding scale—pay what you can! Suggested amounts are $5, $10, or $15 per family. Please feel welcome to use the “other donation amount” option if these suggestions do not fit in your family’s budget! We want as many kids to enjoy this event as possible.
