Lakes Area Unlimited Learning: GERD and Obesity

January 12, 1:30-3:30 P.M, Dr. Paul Severson, co-director of the Minnesota Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIMIS) on the campus of Cuyuna Regional Medical Center will focus on two of his surgical specialties: bariatric (weight loss) surgery and gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). He will discuss prevention, symptoms, causes, diagnosis and the current minimally invasive treatment approaches. His interests also include endoscopic carpal tunnel release, therapeutic endoscopy and missionary medicine. He is Founder and President of Project Haiti, Inc a charitable non-profit organization that has provided humanitarian relief to the impoverished people of rural Haiti since 1989. He has spearheaded a national initiative to propagate minimally invasive surgery skills in Haiti as well as with interns in the U.S. The event occurs at Heartwood Senior Living, 500 Heartwood Dr., Crosby.
