Dragonflies and damselflies (known collectively as the Odonata) are fascinating and beautiful insects and can be found throughout Minnesota, from the prairies to the north woods.

There are 105 known species of dragonfly and 41 known damselfly species in Minnesota.  19 species have been

added to the state list since 2006.

John’s workshop will begin with “Beginning Dragonfly

Identification” followed by a walk in the Arboretum’s fields

and wetlands where we will capture and identify dragonflies

and damselflies.  We will then return to the classroom to

download and view pictures where we can look at a

5 foot image of a 1 inch damselfly!
