Cuyuna Off-Road Triathlon – Paddle, Shred and Thread the Red

Event info

Our 2nd Annual Cuyuna Off-Road Triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the world-renowned Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, in northern Minnesota. This off-road triathlon challenges participants to a 3-mile paddle, 8.5-mile mountain bike ride, and 2.5-mile trail run. 

basics

The bike ride will take place on beginner and intermediate mountain bike trails. All participants are required to wear a helmet. Given the rough terrain in Cuyuna, we recommend that participants use mountain bikes (not cross/hybrid bikes). Pedal assist or e-bikes are not permitted.

Allowed vessels include canoes, solo canoes, kayaks, tandem kayaks, or stand up paddle boards. Canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, paddles, and personal flotation devices (required) will not be provided to participants. They must either bring their own equipment or rent it.

​The race start/finish and transition areas will be at the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area’s Rally Center. Participants will start by paddling on Huntington Lake, biking on various trails around Huntington, and then running around Pennington Mine Lake.

>> The 2019 RACER GUIDE can be viewed/downloaded here and was emailed to participants on June 3 and includes details about rules, schedules, equipment drop-off, parking, etc.

>> Heat assignments will be posted and emailed on Friday, June 7th.

​We are once again partnering with Pickle Events to manage our online registrations, timing, and some of the event logistics.

Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. They reserve the right to postpone or cancel the race in the event of inclement weather or poor trail conditions. If this happens, no refunds will be given.

Saturday, June 8th:

• FREE free Kids Triathlon (ages 4+) from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Hallett Center – bike, run, and swim a mini course!

• Registration for the Kids Tri is not required but we’d appreciate it. Click here to sign your kid(s) up!

• ​​Pre-race packet pick up from 4:00-7:00 PM at: Hallett Center of Crosby (470 8th Street Crosby, MN 56441).
  
• The Kids Tri and packet pick up will coincide with a catered buffet from the famous Maucieri’s Itailian Bistro. Buffet tickets can be purchased when you pre-register or the night of the event. ($10/adult (ages 12+), $6/youth)

Sunday, June 9th: 

• Race day registration/check in/equipment drop off starts at 7:00 AM 

• Triathlon (first heat) starts at 8:00 AM 

• Awards announced at approximately 12:00 PM ​
