Crosslake Memorial Day Services

The annual Memorial Day Ceremony let by the Crosslake/Fifty Lakes American Legion Post 500 will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Crosslake Pinewood Cemetery. Guest speaker will be Major Sara Lokstad, Medical Corps, U.S. Army Reserve. Lokstad has deployed to Iraq and last summer to Kuwait. She is a doctor at the Essentia Health-Crosslake Clinic. The annual ceremony is to honor and remember deceased military veterans who served their country. There are 166 local veterans buried at Pinewood who will be identified with individual American flags at their gravesite and will be recognized individually during the ceremony. The American Legion Riders and the Crosslake Police Department will lead a flag presentation to open the ceremony. During the raising of the flag, John Carlson will sing the national anthem followed by Crosslake Community School students laying a wreath at the flagpole. Nessa Engen, a Crosslake Community High School student and benefactor to the post to help serve military men and women, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Fred Cressman of the Crosslake Evangelical Free Church will give the invocation and benediction. Engen and Major Jon Kolstad, U.S Air Force (Ret), will read the names of the deceased veterans. Kolstad is Crosslake’s planning and zoning representative for Crow Wing County. The ceremony will conclude with the post color guard providing military honors. Those who attend may bring lawn chairs.
