Brainerd Memorial Day Services

May 29, 2016 - May 30, 2016

The Brainerd Memorial Day ceremonies will begin 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Laurel Street bring, where a wreath honoring those veterans lost at sea will be tossed in the Mississippi River. A prayer will be given by Pastor Mark Ford, followed by the firing of a fire salute and taps.

The ceremony will proceed to the All Veterans Memorial next to the Crow Wing County Courthouse, where a wreath will be placed in honor of all Veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. This will be followed by a prayer by Pastor Ford, and the firing of a rifle salute and taps.

The Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. with a lineup beginning at 9:30 a.m. proceeding east on B Street to Third Avenue NE, then north to Evergreen Cemetery.

Guest speaker will be SFC Nathanael Porisch, Minnesota National Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Sheyla Jensen-Boyes and the Gettysburg Address will be given by Caleb Christensen, American Legion Boys State. Music will be provided by the BHS Band under the direction of Chris Fogderud. Baxter Mayor Darrel Olson and Brainerd Mayor James Wallin will offer greetings as well as Bob Nelson, Crow Wing County veterans service officer; and John Boeder, president of the Evergreen Cemetery Association. There will again be limited handicap parking available. In case of rain, the program will be held at the National Guard Armory at 10 a.m.
