DESCRIPTION:Crossing Arts presents its newest exhibition ‘Costume Party’\, A Halloween Themed Exhibition with artwork by Jim Cook\, Gregory Dirr\, Martin Nelson\, Tony Powers\, and Chase Vreeland. \n‘Costume Party’\, is a fun\, weird\, and spooky exhibition featuring the artwork of five artists from across the country. Artists Jim Cook\, Gregory Dirr\, Martin Nelson\, Tony Powers\, and Chase Vreeland\, all focus on the idea of a Halloween party in this exhibit\, with each piece on display incorporating figurative imagery of a costume or mask\, both recognizable and somewhat imagined\, that one may wear this time of year. As you move through the gallery\, you’ll feel like you are walking through a party full of interesting creatures and characters all dressed up around you. SUMMARY:Northern Waters Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Crossing Arts presents ‘Northern Waters’\, Artwork By Lindsey Personius and Calihan Yliniemi. \nThis exhibition encompasses the beauty and abundant scenery and wildlife that Minnesota holds\, through a collaboration of paintings by Calihan Yliniemi and pottery by Lindsey Personius. Inspired by lake horizons\, sunrises and sunsets\, and reflections on the water\, each of the mediums on display portrays fond memories of growing up on and around lakes in Minnesota\, spending time with loved ones\, and enjoying the sweet sounds of nature.  \nLindsey Personius is a part-time artist that lives in Pillager\, Minnesota who enjoys crafting functional\, handmade pottery and paintings from her home studio. She studied Art Education with a focus on Ceramics at the University of Wisconsin – Stout where she handbuilt large\, abstract sculptures. After college\, she moved west to Sun Valley\, Idaho where she continued her ceramics education at the University of Idaho. There she specialized in throwing functional pottery.  \nLindsey’s work is inspired by life in Minnesota and all things on\, in\, and around the lakes. She primarily does wheel-thrown ceramics\, with stoneware clay in a traditional and minimal style. Altering the surface of her pieces\, she strives to echo the dichotomy between natural and man-made environments. \nCalihan Yliniemi is a Minnesota-based artist\, currently residing in Minneapolis. She found her true passion for art\, especially in drawing and painting\, in college. A drawing professor motivated her love for drawing organic shapes and subjects in nature. At the College of Saint Benedict\, she expanded on her passion for and skills in painting. As an art educator\, she strives to share her love and joy for creating art with students of all ages.  \nCalihan’s work is inspired by the beauty found in nature\, as she continues to paint and draw landscape scenes. The majority of art she creates encompasses the vivid colors of the subject matter and the joy it evokes\, whether it be landscapes\, people or objects. Intrigued by artists who stay true to their own style\, she is inspired to create art that is a reflection of herself as well. \nOpening August 6\, this exhibition will be on display in our gallery through September 4. An artist talk will take place on Saturday\, September 4\, from 12:00 – 12:30 pm\, followed by a closing reception on the same day from 12:30 – 2:00 pm. Free will offering at the door. Light refreshments will be served. SUMMARY:Bob Ross Cherrywood Challenge - Quilt Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Crossing Arts presents ‘Bob Ross Cherrywood Challenge’ Quilt Exhibition. \nEvery year\, Cherrywood Hand Dyed Fabrics challenges artists to create a unique piece of art with a limited color palette. Given simple rules\, they were encouraged to push themselves creatively to design an original fiber art piece\, taking inspiration from the art and legacy of the late Bob Ross\, creator of Public Television’s “The Joy of Painting.” Four traveling exhibits were chosen from more than 400 submissions. The cohesive colors\, size\, theme and texture of Cherrywood make the exhibit one of a kind. There were no limits on technique\, so the viewer will see incredible manipulations of fabric in these 20-inch quilts. The collection is stunning and we hope you can appreciate the time and artistry that went into their creation! DESCRIPTION:Crossing Arts presents its newest exhibition ‘100 Days Of Watercolor’\, Artwork By Lisa Pomerleau. \nAfter a long absence from art\, Lisa Pomerleau knew she needed to do something\, so she created her own challenge – 100 Paintings in 100 Days. Watercolors were the medium of choice and she added accountability to the project by posting each painting on her social media accounts daily. This 100 day challenge was just what she needed to be pushed back into the creative art scene once again. Everyday was a challenge\, not only to complete a painting\, but to teach herself a new technique to make her pieces look more realistic. Having a strong sense of patience helped too\, as she worked through those little details within her work. Pomerleau’s artwork is a little bit of everything\, bits and pieces of herself and her favorite things\, all tied together with the beautiful characteristics in everyday life. A selection of these pieces are on display in our gallery\, we hope you will visit us for a closer look. \nOpening May 7\, this exhibition will be on display in our gallery through May 22. DESCRIPTION:Crossing Arts presents its newest exhibition ‘Light\, Color\, And The Northern Landscape’\, Artwork by Steven Weagel. \n‘Light\, Color\, And The Northern Landscape’ showcases the defined skill and beauty of Steven Weagel’s handblown glass pieces and metalwork. As an artist\, Weagel sees his role in life as a creator of beauty\, and implements that mindset whenever and wherever he can. With an abundance of negativity all around us\, that beauty needs to shine\, and Weagel’s work does just that. Using natural forms\, color\, and light within his pieces\, everything combines to reveal the inherent natural qualities of colored glass. Over the years Weagel has continued to master the tools and techniques of 2\,000° glass. He has built several hot glass studios throughout the years\, including one at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival\, which was featured on their grounds from 1976 through 1987. Weagel creates all of the glass portion of his artwork at Vandalia Glassworks in South St. Paul and all of his forging and welding is done at his studio near Pequote Lakes\, MN. \nOpening March 5\, this exhibition will be on display in our gallery through March 26. DESCRIPTION:Crossing Arts presents its newest exhibition ‘Following My Creative Compass\, Works By Paula Jensen’. \n‘Following My Creative Compass’ is an artistic journey of Paula Jensen’s work and creative process over the last thirty years. Beginning through experimentation in two-dimensional sketching and painting\, and later finding a strong connection to metalwork and three-dimensional sculpture\, she uses her mastery of technique to express her understanding of herself and the world around her. Jensen’s work conveys great beauty through her use of traditional sculpting methods\, fine details in each piece\, and the overall uniqueness of the medium\, but she has an eye for irony\, magic\, fantasy\, and the strange\, all things that can be found in her metal sculptures. \nOpening October 9\, this exhibition will be on display in our gallery through October 31. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of our newest exhibition ‘Oil & Water’\, Contemporary Works By Lonnie Knutson\, on Friday\, March 6\, from 5 – 7 pm. Free will offering at the door. Light refreshments will be served. Enjoy mingling with fellow artists and arts enthusiasts. \n‘Oil & Water’ takes an abstract focus through Lonnie Knutson’s unique and creative painting style. From her original work painting watercolor landscapes\, she has created artwork in a myriad of mediums and subject matters throughout her life\, but creating abstract art is where she has landed\, and it has provided a welcoming challenge which she loves. Knutson’s work begins with a seed and grows\, building on layers giving depth and importance to each artistic mark within the work. She gains inspiration from nature\, which can clearly be seen through her choice of color pallet\, as well as through the weaving of organic and geometric shapes throughout her paintings. All artists hope to grow\, stretch and experiment during their lifetime of creating\, and abstract painting is Knutson’s stretch now. Molly primarily works in acrylic painting\, as it is the medium she started with and is most fluent in. She also enjoys working with oil pastel and mixed media\, and has recently delved into larger work through murals\, as well as the medium of body painting. Over the last few years\, Molly has learned to paint more from her heart\, rather than her head and past knowledge. Her love of storytelling\, personal memories\, and emotions have all made their way into her creative process and finished artwork.
