Featuring cruising sessions\, burnouts\, off-street racing and the always exciting powerskid competition\, Powercruise is something for all fans of modified cars to enjoy. \nThere’s spectacular off-track entertainment\, too\, including Show-n-Go awards\, a Horsepower Dyno Shootout as well as the ever-popular Miss Powercruise Competition to keep everyone busy over the action-packed three-day event. \nCruise sessions allow entrants to drive their cars alongside some of the toughest automotive hardware in the land. Muscle cars\, hot rods\, imports\, drag cars\, blown\, bottled\, turbo-charged and naturally aspirated\, and everything in between can be found on-track with their petrol head owners able to take passengers along for the ride of their life. \nIn addition to the cruising sessions\, Powercruise features some wild demonstrations of horsepower during the Powerskid Contest where entrants fry the tires off their car in a straight line for as far as they can. DESCRIPTION:‘Wowicakekage: Weaving Realities’ is a traveling exhibit of Wicanhpi Iyotan Win (Autumn Cavender)’s explorations and experimental applications of digital and generative art practices within a Dakota context. This exhibit highlights just one of the generative processes that Autumn has explored and developed. \nMuch of Autumn’s practice is rooted in an exploration of traditional Dakota artistic methodology\, centering around quillwork as a method of recording-keeping and encoding data into design. Traditional designs depict and encode cosmological concepts\, personal events\, and connections to land and ancestors. \nUsing this quillworking philosophy\, Autumn explores innovative ways to digitally generate Dakota geometrics and designs that retain their original function as informational carriers. Wowicakekage highlights her process of “generative quillwork” as both a digital and ancestral technology. \nAt its most basic\, generative quillwork is a culturally-specific way of visualizing sound. From the perspective and principles of Dakota aesthetics\, it is a way of depicting how the sounds of songs and stories reverberate through space\, and a Dakota sense of direction and visualizations. And as a quillworking methodology\, it is a way of encoding words\, songs\, and stories into color schemes\, patterns and designs. \nOpening August 5\, this exhibition will be on display in our gallery through August 27. \nAn artist reception will take place on Friday\, August 12\, from 5:00 – 6:00 pm. Free will donation at the door. Light refreshments will be served. SUMMARY:Terrarium Collage & Paper Printing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:August 6 – (Session 1) 10:00 am – 12:00 pm\, (Session 2) 1:00 – 3:00 pm \nIn the first part of the workshop\, students will learn to print their own colorful papers by monoprinting on a gelli plate with acrylic paints. We will explore adding texture through mark-making\, and create a full color selection of prints that can be used in an assortment of projects. \nAfter a short lunch break (12:00 – 1:00 pm)\, students will return to use those papers to create a collage on a wood panel. A template will be provided to guide students through the creation of a terrarium scene. We will discuss layout and techniques for adhering and finishing the image. \nStudents will keep their 5×7 gelli plate\, brayer\, glue stick\, and paint set after class\, a retail value of $62. \nThere are a number of restaurants within walking distance if students choose to leave for lunch\, or they may opt to order in or bring their own lunches. \nThis class is $80 per person. Class size is limited to 6.
