Rosenmeier Center to host forum on unemployment

February 28, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Gordon Rosenmeier Center for State and Local Government will present the forum, “Who Is Unemployed And Why?” from 7-9 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Chalberg Theatre at Central Lakes College.

Panelists will be Sue Hilgart, program manager, Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program; Kara Griffin, programs manager, Crow Wing County Community Services; Sheila Skogen, operations manager, Crow Wing County Community Services; and Mike Bjerkness, workforce director, Brainerd Lakes Area Economic Development Corp.

There are many myths, misunderstandings and misinformation about those who are unemployed and receive benefits. What is the unemployment rate in our area? Who is eligible for benefits? What are the challenges for the unemployed and prospective employers? The panel will discuss these and other topics and take questions from the audience.

The Gordon Rosenmeier Center for State and Local Government is a non-partisan organization that strives to educate and encourage participation of citizens in effective government and the political process, a news release stated.
