Lakes Area Music Festival – Masterclass

Do you ever wonder what it takes for the musicians you see on stage to gain the virtuosic proficiency to perform a difficult violin concerto, a brilliant opera aria, or a beautiful orchestral oboe solo? Ask any musician and you’ll probably hear one answer: PRACTICE! But there’s more to it than that. Most of our musicians participated in school programs, attended summer music camps, and went on to study at prestigious music conservatories around the world- solely for the opportunity to gain wisdom from distinguished pedagogues and performers.

This summer you are invited to join us for a sneak peak of this process through our masterclass series. Join us at Tornstrom Auditorium to watch area youth participate in a rare opportunity to work with professional musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra and beyond. Each Saturday morning class will feature four young performers, beginning with a piece they have prepared and followed by instruction.

These classes are free-of-charge and open to the public and are an extension of the great work happening year round through our Music Mentors Project.

Interested in performing?

Masterclass performers are typically high school or college level instrumentalists or singers. Each selected performer will have 30 minutes on stage to perform and receive instruction from a professional from the LAMF roster.

You must have a short solo prepared to performance level.
Participation is free of charge to those selected.
All orchestral instruments (including piano) and voice parts are eligible.
A piano accompanist will be provided, as needed.
