Calling Creatives of all types! Come learn about DeTOUR Downtown

CALLING ALL ARTISTS! Your talents, skills, and ideas are needed! Come learn how YOU can become part of the deTOUR Downtown project, an initiative to bring creative activity to downtown Brainerd this summer. Join us on Monday, March 12th, 6pm in the “Raw Space” at the Koop Building (707 Laurel St) in downtown Brainerd. We’ll have snacks and beverages, info about this creative place making initiative- you bring your curiosity and ideas. Contact Vicki at Five Wings Arts Council if you have questions. Here’s a bit more about the project: Starting in April 2018 one of Brainerd’s primary transportation corridors, South 6th Street, will undergo major reconstruction, requiring it to be closed and detoured. It is anticipated that Downtown Brainerd will be most affected from July to September. deTOUR Downtown is an initiative to attract people to Downtown Brainerd during this disruptive time by using creative place making principles.

The purpose of this meeting is to ignite artists’ imaginations to use their talents and skills to develop projects that will attract people to downtown Brainerd during the disruptive summer road construction, then to inform them how to apply for the deTOUR Downtown opportunities.

In April, a call for artist proposals will begin. Proposals will be reviewed, and work will be selected to be part of deTOUR Downtown. Ideas could range from creative way finding to mobile pop up art-carts, roving performers and midsummer concerts to sculpture exhibits and community engaged art such as sidewalk chalk painting and so many others. Any artistic discipline can be a part of this, so let your creativity shine in Downtown Brainerd!
