Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society Program

February 28, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

WILD FOR MINNESOTA ORCHIDS
Speaker: Malcolm and Rosemary MacFarlane, Botanists, St. Paul MN

The Orchid family is one of the largest families of flowering plants with about 28,000 currently identified species. Which of theses are native to Minnesota? Come join us on the trail of Minnesota’s wild orchids with our guides Dr. Malcolm and Rosemary MacFarlane.

They have done extensive volunteer work with the Minnesota DNR on their annual surveys and monitoring of Minnesota’s federally endangered plant species, especially the dwarf trout lily and the western prairie fringed orchid. For this work they received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. During their many projects they have endeavored to photograph all the orchids in their natural habitats.

In their presentation we will see most of the wild orchids in their native habitat in association with other native orchids you might expect to see there. They will also reveal interesting and unique facts about each,

Come join the adventure. This program is sponsored by the Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Society, and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
