Lakes Area Unlimited Learning welcomes recently retired Arboretum director Mary Corrigan and new director Matthew Hill; Tuesday February 9th to acquaint attendees with this 500-acre jewel located right in the cities of Brainerd/Baxter north of the movie complex.
In the early 70’s, a non-profit arboretum was formed. Land previously used as a landfill was amended and today there are gardens, preserved Jack Pine Savanna, native plants and trails to ski, bike, snowshoe and hike. The arboretum provides year round activities and space for meetings and weddings as well.
This year, Phase I of a two-mile fitness trail called the “Savanna Loop” has been completed with interactive equipment and a downloadable app to assist, monitor and record activities. A total of twelve fitness stations will eventually complete this outdoor gym, which is available year round to everyone.
